Raksha Bandhan Symbolizes Love, Trust and Human Values

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, with association of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Brahmagiri, Udupi, A Raksha Bandhan programme was organized, Shri Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of the Society, said, “Raksha Bandhan is not merely a festival of tying a rakhi; it represents the sacred bond of love, trust, respect, and mutual care. The rakhi is not simply a thread, but an emotional bond that strengthens relationships and conveys the values of mutual support, protection, and humanity.”

In today’s fast-paced and increasingly stressful lifestyle, spiritual reflection, remembrance of the Divine, and meditation have assumed greater significance in fostering peace of mind, inner strength, and positive thinking. B. K. Sumakka, Director of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, said that the organization is an international spiritual institution committed to nurturing peace, harmony, and goodwill in society through human values, self-awareness, and meditation.

Condolence Meeting Held in Memory of Lion George Samuel

The demise of Ln George Samuel, who was always at the forefront of the progress of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society and served as a guiding force to many through his vast experience, simplicity, and commitment to social service, is an irreparable loss to both the co-operative sector and society at large, said Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi. He was speaking at a condolence meeting organized by the Society at its Jagannatha Sabha Bhavana in memory of Ln George Samuel, who served as the Vice President of the Society and was a respected senior leader in the Lions international organization. On the occasion, floral tributes were paid to his portrait and heartfelt homage was offered.

George Samuel had served in a senior position in the Postal Department and was widely recognized for his dedication and integrity in public service. Even after his retirement, he remained actively involved in numerous social and community welfare initiatives through the Lions organization, the Protestant Christian community, and various harmony committees. The President recalled that George Samuel’s administrative guidance, valuable advice, and visionary leadership as a Director and Vice President of the Society would always be remembered.

Paying tribute to the departed leader, Shri Sadashiva Nayak, Director of the Society and a close friend and colleague of George Samuel, said that he had earned the respect and admiration of all through his sincerity, honesty, and people-friendly personality during his service in the Postal Department. He further noted that even after retirement, George Samuel worked tirelessly through the All India Postal and RMS Pensioners’ Association to address the grievances of pensioners and safeguard their rights, thereby extending support to numerous individuals. His commitment to social causes, guidance, and spirit of selfless service served as an inspiration to many, and his passing is a profound loss not only to his family but also to society as a whole.

The meeting was attended by the Directors of the Society, Mr.Ranjan Manohar, son of the late George Samuel, Mr.Rajesh V. Sherigar, General Manager, Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant General Manager, Mr. Ashwini Kumar M., Accountant, and members of the staff. Floral tributes were offered to the departed soul, followed by a silent prayer seeking eternal peace for the deceased and strength for the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Sadhana Award for the 20th Consecutive Year

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, which has consistently demonstrated remarkable progress and all-round development in the co-operative sector, has been honoured with the  prestigious Sadhana Award for its outstanding performance during the financial year 2025–26.

The award was bestowed by Dr. M. N. Rajendra Kumar, President of South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank during the award ceremony held as part of the Bank’s Annual General Meeting. Shri Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., and Shri Rajesh V. Sherigar, General Manager, received the award on behalf of the Society.

The ceremony was attended by Shri L. Umanath, Director of the Society; Shri Praveen Kumar, Assistant General Manager; Smt. Lavanya K. R., Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Udupi District; Shri Ramesh H. N., Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Dakshina Kannada District; and the Directors of the SCDCC Bank.

This remarkable achievement reflects the Society’s sustained commitment to excellence, progressive growth, efficient administration and its continued contribution to the co-operative movement.

Sad Demise of Our Vice-President, Mr. George Samuel

George Samuel (79), Vice-President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., A Senior Lions leader, and a prominent community leader, passed away on August 22, at a private hospital in Udupi following a brief illness.

A resident of Guddeyangady, Udyavara, Mr. George Samuel was an active member of the Lions Club of Udyavara and had also served as the former Cabinet Secretary of Lions District 317C.

He was also a prominent leader of the Protestant Christian community and actively participated in various social and community initiatives. For several years, he served as a member of the Souharda Committee of St. Francis Xavier Church, Udyavara, contributing significantly to fostering harmony and goodwill within the community. He is survived by his wife and children.

The President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Shri Jayakar Shetty Indrali, along with Board of Directors and Staff members expressed their deep sorrows.

His contributions to the society and the wider community will be remembered with respect and gratitude. May his soul rest in peace.

Voluntary Blood Donation Camp and Felicitation of a Retired Soldier – Malpe

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized on August 16 at the Government Pre-University College Auditorium, Malpe, in association with Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, the Blood Bank Department of KMC Manipal, the District Administration, Udupi, and various other organizations and under the leadership of the Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane (Regd.), Udupi District, Malpe Unit, its Women’s Wing, and the G. Shankar Family Trust (Regd.), Ambalpady, Udupi. The camp was conducted More than 30 voluntary donors participated in the blood donation camp.

Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., inaugurated the camp and, in his address, emphasized that blood donation is a noble and vital service that can help save the lives of patients in need. He stated that a single blood donation can help save up to four lives. He further highlighted that increased participation by young people in blood donation can help hospitals provide blood to patients at the right time. He appreciated the continued efforts of the G. Shankar Family Trust and Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane in organizing blood donation camps regularly over the past several years. As part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, retired soldier Mr. Santosh Shreeyan was felicitated during the programme in recognition of his service to the nation.

The programme was presided over by Mrs. Sampreetha Rohith, President of the Malpe Women’s Wing. Mr. Ravish Koravadi, District President of Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane; Mr. Jayanth Amin, Immediate Past President; Mr. Shekhar Tholar, Secretary; Mr. Suresh Karkera, President of Rotary Malpe Karavali; Mr. Rama Poojary, Former President of Rotary Kalyanpur; Mr. Ravi Kanchan, President of Hanuman Vitthoba Bhajana Mandira; Mr. Rajesh Sherigar, General Manager of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd.; and Dr. Ojaswi of KMC Manipal were present on the occasion.

80th Independence Day Celebration

As part of the nation’s 80th Independence Day celebration, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, commemorated the occasion with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor The national flag was hoisted by Col. (Dr.) Francis E. A. Rodrigues, an ex-serviceman, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of upholding the laws of the nation and contributing positively towards the country’s progress and development. On this occasion, he was felicitated by the Society in recognition of his distinguished service.

Speaking on the occasion, Society President Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of the freedom fighters. He highlighted the responsibility of every citizen in nation-building and urged everyone to perform their duties with sincerity, integrity, and dedication.

The programme was attended by Vice President Mr. George Samuel, Centenary Celebration Committee Convenor Mr. Purushothama P. Shetty, members of the Board of Directors, staff members, branch Salaha Samithi members and daily deposit collectors.

A Mega Blood Donation Camp at Shirva

With collaboration of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society A mega blood donation camp was organized on August 9 at Sanghamitra Hall, Kollabettu, Shirva, in memory of Late Shri Shambhu Shetty of Attinje, Shirva. The camp was conducted under the leadership of the Shirva Buntara Sangha, Udupi District Hospital, and various social and community organizations from the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh V. Sherigar, General Manager of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, and Dr. Veena from Udupi District Hospital highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and its vital role in saving lives.

The camp was inaugurated by social worker Mr. Manohar Shetty Mandar, who appreciated the efforts of the participating organizations in conducting the blood donation drive in memory of Late Shri Shambhu Shetty, who had led a meaningful life dedicated to social service and community welfare.

Advocate Mr. Mattaru Ratnakara Hegde of Udupi, addressing the gathering, stated that Late Shri Shambhu Shetty had lived a fulfilling life of 90 years and made significant contributions to society. He expressed hope that the blood collected through the camp would benefit those in need and serve as a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Among those present were Mr. Kutyaru Sainath Shetty, President of Shirva Buntara Sangha; former MLA Mr. Lalaji R. Mendon; BJP District President Mr. Kutyaru Naveen Shetty; Mrs. Hemalatha Shambhu Shetty and family members of Late Shri Shambhu Shetty; former Udupi City Municipal Council President Mr. Kiran Kumar; Mr. Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde; and several other distinguished guests.

A total of 126 units of blood were collected from voluntary donors during the camp.

Co-operative Week 2026 – Free Health Check-up Camp Organized at Udupi

As part of Co-operative Week 2026, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, and inspired by the motto “Prosperity through Cooperation,” a Free Health Check-up Camp was organized jointly by Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, Karnataka State Co-operative Federation, Bengaluru, Udupi District Co-operative Union, and the Department of Co-operation, Udupi District, in association with Prasad Netralaya and its affiliated institutions.

The camp was held at the Mini Hall of Smt. Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Sabhabhavana, Udupi, and offered free eye examinations, physiotherapy consultations, and diabetes screening for the benefit of the public.


The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Nagesh Hegde, Administrative Moktesar of the Siddhi Vinayaka Temple situated within the premises of Smt. Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Sabhabhavana.


The chief guests included Mr. Suresh Shetty, President of Guru Nithyananda Credit Co-operative Society; Mr. Purushothama P. Shetty, President of Udupi Bunts Sangha; Senior Advocate Mr. Shantaram Shetty; Dr. Meghana, Ophthalmologist from Prasad Netralaya; and Mrs. Anusha Kotyan, Chief Executive Officer of the Udupi District Co-operative Union.


The programme was presided over by Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of the Udupi District Co-operative Union, Director of the Karnataka State Co-operative Federation, Bengaluru, and President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi.


Hundreds of local residents and members of the public participated in the camp and availed themselves of the free healthcare services.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Rajesh V. Sherigar, General Manager of the Society. The event was compered by Mr. Naveen K, Branch Manager of the Malpe Branch, who also proposed the vote of thanks.

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Distributes Educational Aid Worth Nearly ₹20 Lakh; Felicitates Meritorious Students

India’s cooperative sector functions alongside commercial banks and plays a significant role in the development and progress of Karnataka, said P.G.R. Sindhia, State Chief Commissioner of the Bharat Scouts and Guides and former Minister.

He was inaugurating the Meritorious Students Felicitation Ceremony, free distribution of notebooks and educational materials, and sapling distribution programme organized by Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd. at the Udupi Town Hall on Saturday for students of Kannada-medium schools in Udupi district.

Addressing the gathering as chief guests were Udupi MLA Yashpal A. Suvarna, Ashok Kamath, Principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Udupi, and Sudheer Kumar J., Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kundapura Sub-Division. Vidwan Damodar Sharma Barkur delivered the Special Lecture (Vishesha Upanyasa), highlighting the importance of education, cultural values, and character building in shaping the future of society.

During the programme, 24 meritorious students from Kannada-medium schools who excelled in the SSLC Examination 2025–26 were honoured with scholarships and merit awards worth over ₹5 lakh.

 

On the occasion, the Society distributed free notebooks to 45 Kannada-medium schools, school uniforms to 8 schools, financial assistance and educational aids to six students, and donated a computer system to Udupi Christian Pre-University College. Umbrellas were also distributed to school teachers. Altogether, educational assistance worth nearly ₹20 lakh was extended through the programme.

Vanamahotsava Celebration – Tree Plantation Programme

A tree plantation programme was organized on 21 June 2026 (Sunday) as part of the Vanamahotsava celebrations under the joint auspices of the Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Ltd., Bengaluru, Udupi District Co-operative Union Ltd., Udupi, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka – Udupi District Association, and the Department of Co-operation, Udupi District. The programme was held at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Dr. V. S. Acharya District Training Centre, Pragathi Nagar, Manipal.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. B. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, District Chief Commissioner of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Director of the Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Ltd., Bengaluru, and President of the Udupi District Co-operative Union Ltd. and Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi.
