Bailoor: World Environment Day Celebration, Vanamahotsava Programme and Drawing Competition

World Environment Day Celebration

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, in association with Parisara Premigalu Bailoor, Kalakiran Club Bailoor, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Udupi, and Bailoor Mahishamardini Temple, organised a tree plantation programme under the theme “Hasiru Nannooru Bailoor” (Green My Village – Bailoor) with the vision of creating a greener environment.

The tree plantation drive was held at the premises of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Udupi. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, by planting saplings. Present on the occasion were Mr. Rajesh V. Sherigar, General Manager of the Society, Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant General Manager, Dr. Prashanth Shetty of the Animal Husbandry Department, Mr. Satish T., Director of SVC Bank, former Kalakiran Club President Mr. Subhash K., programme coordinators Mr. Venkatesh Prabhu, Mr. Durgaprasad, Mr. Naveen Nishchal, and several others.

Drawing Competition

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, a “Hasiru Nannooru Bailoor” Drawing Competition was organised on 7 June 2026 at the Bailoor Temple Hall.

Inaugurating the programme, Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of Badagabettu Co-operative Society, spoke about the contribution each individual can make towards preserving the environment. He urged parents to educate their children about environmental awareness from an early age.

Dr. Shraddha Shetty, Trustee of Dr. U. Muniyal Memorial Trust, Director of Dr. Krishna Life Sciences Ltd., and Muniyal Ayurveda, attended the programme as the resource person and shared valuable insights on environmental conservation.

Among those present on the dais were Dr. M.C. Reddappa, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Udupi; Mr. Mohan Muddanna Shetty, Administrative Moktesar of Sri Mahishamardini Temple, Bailoor; Mr. Satish Rao, Director of SVC Bank; and Mr. Prabhakar Bhandary, former President of Kalakiran Club.

More than 130 students participated in the drawing competition, and prizes were distributed to the winners during the programme.

Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant General Manager of Badagabettu Society, welcomed the gathering and compered the event, while Mr. Durgaprasad proposed the vote of thanks.

Kundapura: Inauguration of 12th Branch of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society

Kundapura: At a time when many commercial banks in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district have merged and lost their individual identity, co-operative institutions have emerged as the leading force in providing essential services to the people, said Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar, President of Dakshina Kannada District Central Co-operative Bank and Karnataka State Co-operative Apex Federation.

He was speaking after inaugurating the fully air-conditioned 12th branch of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi, located at Shri Nandikeshwara Towers near Parijatha Hotel on the main road in Kundapura.

He stated that the co-operative sector holds a special place in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and has been growing alongside the economic progress of the people.

Efforts of Jayakar Shetty and Team Appreciated

Dr. Rajendra Kumar said that while starting an institution may be easy, successfully running it profitably is a major challenge. The growth of a co-operative institution greatly depends on the people-friendly approach of its staff. He praised Badagabettu Society, which has over a century of history, for its remarkable growth and public trust over the past 35 years under the leadership of President Jayakar Shetty Indrali and his team.

A Model for Co-operative Growth

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary said that Badagabettu Society stands as an excellent example of how a co-operative institution can be developed and managed successfully. He appreciated the efforts of Jayakar Shetty in strengthening the institution and taking it to greater heights.

Focus on People-Centric Services

MLA A. Kiran Kumar Kodgi stated that co-operative institutions today are growing parallel to commercial banks and are becoming increasingly accessible to rural and middle-class communities.

Former MP K. Jayaprakash Hegde observed that while co-operative institutions earlier had limited operational scope, they have now expanded widely. He suggested that co-operative societies should introduce more attractive public-oriented services, including unsecured educational loans. He also stated that a reduction in loan interest rates through government-level discussions would greatly benefit farmers and youth.

Society Registers ₹18.13 Crore Profit

Presiding over the function, President of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Jayakar Shetty Indrali said that the 107-year-old institution has overcome many challenges and has been functioning profitably for the past three decades while maintaining the trust of its customers.

He informed that the society currently has 23,000 members, with deposits worth ₹662 crore, outstanding loans of ₹528 crore, reserves of ₹113.24 crore, investments of ₹284.07 crore, and working capital of ₹795 crore. During the financial year 2025-26, the society recorded an annual turnover of ₹4062.29 crore and earned a profit of ₹18.13 crore. He credited the success to the guidance of the Board of Directors and the support of the staff.

On the occasion, Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar was felicitated. Passbooks and deposit certificates were distributed to the first customers of the new branch. Engineer Muralidhara Shetty was honoured, while building owners G. Suresh and G. Uday were also recognized.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, SCDCC Bank Director Mahesh Hegde Molahalli, District Co-operative Deputy Registrar Lavanya K.R., Assistant Registrar of Kundapura Subdivision Sudheer Kumar J., Society Vice President George Samuel, General Manager Rajesh V. Sherigar, and other directors were present.

District Co-operative Union Director Sridhar P.S. compered the programme, while Branch Manager Samarth Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.

₹18.13 Crore Profit in 2025–26

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, a reputed co-operative institution in the state, has recorded an annual business turnover of ₹4,062.29 crore and earned a net profit of ₹18.13 crore during the financial year 2025–26, said President Jayakar Shetty Indrali at a press meet.

Record Performance

The society, which has been rendering meaningful service in the co-operative sector for 108 years, has a membership base of 22,869 as of the end of the financial year. It has mobilized deposits of ₹658.80 crore, registering a growth of 14.93% over the previous year.

Loans are provided to members for housing, vehicle purchase, land purchase and development, commercial complexes and residential projects, self-employment, education, marriage, gold loans, and household needs after obtaining necessary documentation.

The outstanding loan portfolio stood at ₹533.96 crore, marking an 11.94% increase compared to the previous year. The society holds reserves of ₹117.60 crore and investments of ₹268.30 crore, with a total working capital of ₹791.46 crore.

On this occasion, traffic police officials, members of the Society’s Board of Directors, the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager, and the accountant were present.

12th Branch at Kundapura Soon

The society currently operates 11 branches, out of which 8 function in its own buildings. For the 12th branch, a property has been purchased in the heart of Kundapura, and the construction work is in its final stage. The branch will soon be ready to serve customers with modern facilities.

Awards and Social Commitment

The society has received 2 national awards, 9 state-level awards, and 19 undivided Dakshina Kannada district awards, establishing itself as a successful credit co-operative institution. Along with business growth, the society fulfills its social responsibility by allocating around ₹25 lakh annually for education, healthcare, and social welfare activities.

“Sahakara Manikya” Award

The society was honored with the “Sahakara Manikya” award at the 72nd All India Co-operative Week state-level program. Along with the award, it received a cash prize and a 5-gram gold medal. This recognition was given for its outstanding service, management, and achievements in the co-operative sector, making it the first credit co-operative society in Udupi district to receive this honor.

Digital Services: Chetana Mobile App

As part of digital initiatives, the society has developed the “Chetana Mobile App,” through which customers can transfer funds, manage loan accounts, and access information about new schemes. The app has received a positive response from users.

Available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, customers are encouraged to utilize the app and contact their nearest branch for more details.

All branches offer facilities such as safe lockers, e-stamping, PAN card services, money transfer, health cards, insurance services, mobile-based daily deposit collection, zero-balance Vidyanidhi accounts, missed call services, and free SMS alerts.

Future Targets

The society aims to achieve an annual business turnover of ₹5,000 crore and total business of ₹1,400 crore in the coming year, including ₹750 crore in deposits and ₹650 crore in loan disbursements.

Additionally, it plans to construct a “Sahakara Soudha” building at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore on a 1-acre site already acquired in the heart of Udupi.

Branch advisory committees have been formed in each branch to implement new schemes under their supervision.

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Donates Computer to Udupi Traffic Police

On behalf of Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, a high-quality computer was presented to the Udupi District Traffic Police Station.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that the cooperative sector holds a bright opportunity to energize the country’s future and its economic sphere, and that the Central Government has brought financial discipline into cooperative business through the separate Ministry of Cooperation.

He inaugurated the Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society’s Customers’ Convention held at Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Auditorium on Sunday, 01-02-2026.

He stated that unity between the management, staff, and customers is essential for achievement. Even before Independence, elders established cooperative institutions and provided economic strength. In the coastal region—the birthplace of nationalized banks—the cooperative sector has remained in the forefront.

Former minister K. Jayaprakash Hegde, after receiving felicitations, said that in the cooperative movement, commitment and willpower are extremely important for an institution to survive. “There is no price for the work done in politics. Instead of seeking success, we must feel satisfied with the work we do,” he said.

As part of the cultural programme, the society’s staff team presented saxophone performance, followed by a dance programme by Nupura Dance Academy, Bailur, and a musical concert by Rajesh Shanbhogue Barkur and team from P. Kalinga Rao Smriti Melodies.

A special attraction was the Yakshagana dance presentation by the Society’s staff, which won the hearts of art lovers. Later, eminent artists of the Thenku–Badaguthittu style performed the Yakshagana play “Raja Rudrakopa”, enthralling the audience and bringing the Customers’ Convention to a grand conclusion.

Sri Krishnageetanugraha Award

As part of the ‘Vishwagita Paryaya 2024–2026’ of Sri Puttige Matha, a programme was held at the Rajangana of Sri Krishna Matha, Udupi. On this occasion, Sri Indrali Jayakara Shetty, President of the Badagabettu Co-operative Society, was felicitated with the ‘Sri Krishnageetanugraha Award’ by the “Paryaya Ubhaya Sripadaru.”

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Honored with “Shreshta Sahakari Mitra Award

Udupi: Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi, has been conferred the Best Co-operative Mitra Award at the Annual General Meeting of Udupi Co-operative Town Bank Ltd.

The award was received by Society President Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali and General Manager Mr. Rajesh V. Sherigar on behalf of the Society.

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Bags Sadhana Award 2024-25

Udupi: Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society has received the Sadhana Award 2024-25 for the 19th consecutive year, recognizing its all-round growth in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The award was presented at the Annual General Meeting of the SCDCC Bank Ltd held on August 30.

DK District Central Co-operative Bank President Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar felicitated Society President Jayakar Shetty Indrali and General Manager Rajesh V. Sherigar with the award.

Society Vice-President George Samuel, Director Umanath L., and Assistant General Manager Praveen Kumar were also present on the occasion.

Sahakara Manikya Award for Badagabettu Society

At the 72nd All India Cooperative Week State-Level Program, Badagabettu Cooperative Society has achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the prestigious “Sahakara Manikya” Award.

As part of this honor, the society has been awarded a cash prize of ₹10,000 and a gold medal weighing 5 grams.

This award has been conferred in recognition of the society’s service in the cooperative sector, efficient management, and outstanding achievements. With this honor, Badagabettu Cooperative Society becomes the first credit cooperative society in Udupi district to receive the Sahakara Manikya Award.

The award was received by the society’s President Shri Jayakar Shetty Indrali and the Chief Executive Officer Shri Rajesh V. Sherigar in the presence of distinguished guests.

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi: ₹15.47 Crore Net Profit

The Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2024-25 on Sunday at Smt. Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Hall, Udupi, under the chairmanship of Mr. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of the Society.

Presenting the Annual Report and Accounts, General Manager Mr. Rajesh V. Sherigar announced that the Society closed the financial year with:

  • Membership: 21,519 members
  • Share Capital: ₹4.83 crore
  • Deposits: ₹573.19 crore
  • Outstanding Loans: ₹476.99 crore
  • Annual Business Turnover: Over ₹2,956 crore

The Society posted a net profit of ₹15.47 crore for the year and declared a 15% dividend for its members.

As part of its community service initiatives, the Society honored 13 civic workers serving near its head office and felicitated Ms. Deeksha V. of Arooru, Brahmavar, who entered the Golden Book of World Records by performing continuous Bharatanatyam for 216 hours.

Recognized for its excellence, the Society recently received the “Sadhana Award” at the Annual General Meeting of the SCDCC Bank Ltd, Mangaluru, for its all-round progress in 2024-25. This marks the 19th consecutive year that the Society has won a district-level award, adding to its record of 2 national awards and 9 state awards.

Highlighting its digital initiatives, the Society introduced the “Chetana Mobile App”, offering secure mobile banking services. In addition, daily deposit collections are now enabled through the Pigmy Mobile App. Officials noted that the Society continues to invest in modernization while allocating nearly ₹25 lakh annually for education, healthcare, cultural, and social activities.

The Society also provides a wide range of services, including safe deposit lockers, e-stamping, PAN card facilities, Aadhaar & e-KYC services, Western Union money transfer, health cards, insurance services, missed-call banking, and free SMS alerts.
