Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi: ₹15.23 Crore Net Profit

Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi, recorded a net profit of ₹15.23 crore for the financial year 2023-24. The society announced a 15% dividend for its members at the Annual General Meeting held at Ajjarkadu Town Hall, Udupi. The meeting was presided over by Society President Jayakar Shetty Indrali.

Annual Report Highlights

General Manager Rajesh V. Sherigar presented the annual report and financial statements, noting the following key achievements:
  • The society has 18,309 members with a share capital of ₹4.77 crore.
  • Deposits stood at ₹509.55 crore, while outstanding loans amounted to ₹402.12 crore.
  • The total annual turnover exceeded ₹2,500 crore for the financial year 2023-24.

Gandhi Jayanti Jatha and Cleaning Programme

Udupi, October 2: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari emphasized that the principles of truth, peace, and non-violence espoused by Mahatma Gandhi remain timeless and relevant. She urged everyone to integrate these values into their lives and commemorate Gandhi Jayanti with meaningful tributes.
The event was jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Information and Public Relations Department, City Corporation Udupi, Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka District Institute, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, Udupi District Co-operative Union, Udupi District Samasta Sahakari, and other organizations under the aegis of the Archaeological Research Centre. Collaborative support was also provided by Leo District 317C, Christian PU College, Lions Club Udupi Indrali, Lions Club Udupi Chetana, and Lombard Memorial Mission Hospital, Udupi.
Dr. Vidyakumari inaugurated the valedictory function of the district-level 155th Gandhi Jayanti programme by spinning the charkha, symbolizing Gandhi’s ideals of self-reliance.

Keynote Messages

Dr. Vidyakumari remarked, “True cleanliness is both internal and external. Mahatma Gandhi’s journey from an ordinary individual to a global leader offers life lessons on perseverance and humanity. His experiences in South Africa inspired him to challenge oppression and shaped his non-violent resistance against British rule, which became an inspiration for India’s freedom fighters.”
Jayakar Shetty Indrali, District Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, highlighted Gandhi’s commitment to cleanliness, stating that these efforts should not be confined to a single day but practiced daily to instill discipline, self-restraint, and community service from childhood.
Prasad Rao M., Associate Professor at Government First Grade College, Thenkanidiyur, reflected on Gandhi’s contributions, noting, “Today marks a significant day in India’s history, celebrating both Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, a leader of bold decisions. Gandhi’s ideals of equality and non-violent resolutions inspire us to treat everyone with respect and dignity.”

  • Essay Competition Winners:
    • High School Category: Sakshi Kulal (1st), Maithri (2nd), Shivani (3rd).
    • Pre-University Category: Rakshita Bhat and Pannidhi D. Saini (joint 1st), Shetty (2nd), Divya (3rd).
    • Graduate and Postgraduate Category: Bheemambika (1st), Amisha (2nd), Ashwini D.S. (3rd). Winners received cash prizes, citations, and a commemorative poster on Mahatma Gandhi.
  • A special felicitation ceremony was held to honor the 24 selected pourakarmikas for their dedicated service.

Programme Highlights

The celebrations included a cleanliness drive at the old KSRTC bus stand, organized in collaboration with the district administration and associated groups. A cleanliness jatha started at 8:30 am from the clock tower near the service bus stand, culminating at the Town Hall in Ajjarkadu. Participants included students, scouts and guides, and office-bearers of various organizations who promoted cleanliness through slogans during the march.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Mamta Devi G.S., ASP S. Sudhakar, Municipal Commissioner Rayappa, and others. Representatives from the Lions Club, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society, and various district-level officers also participated.
The gathering was welcomed by Municipal Commissioner Rayappa, with the program moderated by Dayananda and a vote of thanks proposed by District Information Officer Manjunath B.

District-Level Teachers’ Day 2024 at Vijetha Special School

The district-Level Teachers’ Day 2024 celebrations were hosted at Vijetha Residential Special School and Vocational Education Training Institute, Karkala. The event, organized by Badagubettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., featured a throwball tournament and various sports competitions for special school staff.
Association President Jayakar Shetty Indrali inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. Distinguished guests included:

Rakshabandhan Celebration

Rakshabandhan was celebrated in a unique manner at the Jagannatha Auditorium, organized in collaboration with Namma Sangha and Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, Udupi Ajjarkadu Centre.
Brahmakumari Suma shared a thought-provoking message on the significance of Rakshabandhan. The event featured the ceremonial tying of rakhis and distribution of sweets.
Prominent attendees included Association President Sri Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Prajapita Brahmakumari representatives Y. Mohan and Ratnakar Kini, branch managers, and staff. General Manager Rajesh Sherigar welcomed the gathering, and Assistant General Manager Praveen Kumar compered the program.

Badagabettu Co-operative Society Honoured with Sadhana Award for 18th Consecutive Year

Badagabettu Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, under the leadership of President Indrali Jayakar Shetty, has been awarded the Sadhana Award by the Dakshina Kannada District Central Co-operative Bank for the 18th consecutive year. The society also received a Gold Medal for achieving deposits exceeding ₹500 crores during the financial year 2023-24.
The awards were presented during the Annual General Meeting of the Dakshina Kannada District Central Co-operative Bank. President Indrali Jayakar Shetty and General Manager Rajesh Sherigar accepted the honors from Mr. Rajendra Kumar.

Tributes to Retiree Arun Kumar S.V.

A felicitation ceremony was held by the Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society of Udupi for Arun Kumar S.V., who retired as the Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies. The event took place at the Mini Hall of Ajjarkadu Purabhavana in the city.
The chief guests at the ceremony were Sukanya, Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Kundapura Sub-Division, and Raviraj Hegde, Director of KMF. During the event, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, the president of the society, was also honored for being appointed as the Chief Commissioner of the Bharat Scouts and Guides District Association, Udupi.

The event was held on Saturday, 22nd June 2024, at Ajjarkadu Town Hall, Udupi.

International Women’s Day

Under the sponsorship of the association, International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 11, 2018, at the Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Hall. The event was inaugurated by Akshaya Gokhale, a lecturer from Karkala.
