On the special occasion, about 50,000 note books were distributed to the students of 100 Kannada medium schools in Udupi. Lombard health cards were given to 1,900 members and beneficiaries of the association in association with Lombard Memorial (mission) hospital.
In order to save fuel and to control environmental pollution, bicycles were distributed for the association staffs under ‘Go-Green’ campaign.
Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, chairman of Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank and president of SCDCC Bank presided over the programme. Addressing the gathering, he said, “On this auspicious occasion, we have given more importance to education. Nothing is permanent in this world other than helping one for education.” He also added that their credit co-Operative society had bagged three national awards and he wished that this cooperative society too would be converted into a bank in the coming days.
MLA of Udupi K Raghupathi Bhat, MLA of Kaup Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA of Udupi Pramod Madhwaraj and deputy superintendent of co-operative societies of Udupi district Praveen B Nayak were the main guests of the programme.
President of the society Sanjeev Kanchan, centenary committee and convenor of the committee Purushottam P Shetty, vice-president L Umanath and the general manager of the society Jayakara Shetty Indrali were present.
On the occasion, MLA Lalaji R Mendon admired the initiative of saving fuel and using of bicycles to protect environment from getting polluted.
Former MLA Pramod Madhwaraj addressed the gathering and promoted the initiative of saving the environment by giving a simple example of foreign countries using bicycles for years. “We all should give back to the society what we took from the society,” he said.
MLA K Raghupathi Bhat wished all the students and teachers and also the society for completing 100 years.
A cultural programme was also held.
Bharghavi group and Tanushree Pitrody who holds a record on Golden Book of World Records for Yoga, performed in the programme and mesmerized the audience. She was honoured on the occasion by the association for her talent and achievement.
Books were distributed among students. Health cards were given and bicycles were distributed. Financial help was given by the society to the needy as part of the centenary celebration.
